1	2026 FIFA World Cup	5,713,713	This Report marks the middle of the 23rd edition of football's biggest tournament going from the 72-game group stage into the 32-team knockout phase (#12), leaving us with teams that were both highly expected (Spain, France, England...) but also genuine surprises such as Cape Verde, an archipelago with land area of about 4,033 square kilometres whose existence most people only just learnt about after their incredible performances, with three draws (including one for their match with Uruguay pictured to the left) and a narrow defeat in the knockout stage by #23 champions Argentina in extra time.

3	FIFA World Cup	1,320,235	Next edition marks the centennial of the tournament that biggest winners Brazil are the only ones to attend all 23 editions. The 2030 FIFA World Cup could just then return to where it started at Brazil's neighbors Uruguay - and also Argentina and Paraguay, to accomodate the expansion to 48 teams. Instead that seemed too straightforward for FIFA, and those three will only host a match each before the championship resumes in Spain, Portugal and Mexico.
4	Cristiano Ronaldo	1,271,925	This football legend played against another football legend (both now over 40 years old) on Friday, with Ronaldo finally scoring his very first goal of #1, though only due to a penalty kick. Nonetheless, after the controversial decision of overturning Joško Gvardiol's goal, the match marked the end of Modrić's World Cup career whereas Portugal is now through to the next round, set to play against Spain on July 6.
5	Kylian Mbappé	1,259,275	Two more football players. The upper one, who tends to be compared to an animated character pictured to the left across social media memes, is currently tied with #8 with seven goals at #1 so far (and only one behind him on #10), the most recent being the winning goal against Paraguay on the last day of this Report in a match filled with the latter's dark arts and 13 fouls, leading to Mbappé rejecting the handshake with their goalkeeper. The one below, also a victim of memes that instead compare him to an anime character (also to the left), is currently tied with #16 for the second place with five goals. (the ones he scored in the Sunday after the week of this Report had him catch up with Mbappé and Messi and are the reason this here writer is supporting Kane against Haaland in the quarterfinal)

7	Obsession (2025 film)	1,148,422	Currently the 8th highest grossing movie of the year, US$400 million not having a budget of 7 digits, and hit video on demand to make people scared of both "Freaky Nikki" and the guy who caused her personality change at the comfort of their homes.
8	Lionel Messi	1,143,249	Argentina took over the top spot of FIFA's ranking of national teams shortly before the start of #1 on the back of their captain Leo Messi, who during the not as easy as it seemed to be match against #2 (whose team is only 64th in the ranking) managed to score his record-extending 20th World Cup goal (including the record-breaking 12th for the knockout stage). Messi did make sure to pause his team's celebrations to embrace #18 and apparently swapped shirts with him after the final whistle.

11	Deaths in 2026	933,907	As #21's fans celebrated her wedding with songs like "Lover" or "Enchanted", others were probably attending different kind of ceremonies that'd be more likely to play songs such as: What died didn't stay dead, You're alive, you're alive in my head...
12	2026 FIFA World Cup knockout stage	904,511	One day prior to the week of this Report marked the first knockout stage match, where Canada eliminated South Africa from the tournament. By the end of the week, we are left with sixteen teams and the last day of the Report marked the beginning of Round 16, also started by Canada, who after a 0-3 defeat against Morocco became #1's first of the three co-hosts to get eliminated.
13	Supergirl (2026 film)	903,004	While the weekend will be dominated by family pictures Toy Story 5 and Minions & Monsters, they couldn't enter our list, as opposed to a movie featuring human trafficking and a traumatized alcoholic protagonist, but that is also supposed to appeal to children. Starring Milly Alcock as title character Kara Zor-El and also featuring David Corenswet (Kara's cousin Superman, whose movie last year had her first appearance) and Jason Momoa (who in the previous DC movie universe was Aquaman, and now plays the violent and politically incorrect Lobo), Supergirl split opinions and is struggling at the box office, having not yet crossed $100 million worldwide, but the heads of DC Studios said it won't stop their franchise plans - after all, the second Marvel Cinematic Universe movie was also a barely performing one.
14	List of FIFA World Cup finals	849,941	#23 had #8 defeating #5 4-2 on penalties after a 3-3 draw. I know that's a lot of numbers but it all adds up to the fact that we are nearing to the upcoming #1 final, set to take place on July 19.
15	Folarin Balogun	838,349	The leading fierce for the United States scored three goals at #1, including one at their winning match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he later received a red card which intially meant he was going to miss the next match against Belgium until going ahead of this Report on July 5, FIFA applied Article 27 to suspend his ban for a probationary year in a decision that left Belgium astonished, Donald Trump thankful, and this here writer suspicious on how the one overturned red card belongs to the top scorer of the World Cup's primary co-host.
16	Harry Kane	832,447	Again a football player, this time from across the pond to the one above him who saved England in a surprisingly even match against DR Congo with two goals in the second half, adding up to his total of five in a race for another Golden Boot, following the one he won in 2018.
17	Citizen Vigilante	796,845	Combining two ostracized creators, writer-director Uwe Boll and actor Armie Hammer, the latest in the "common man becomes violent vigilante" genre, this time having an undue targeting of Muslim migrants, was lambasted by critics but championed by conservatives and Elon Musk, leading to a deluge of attention that included going atop the Apple and Amazon VOD storefronts.
18	Vozinha	731,318	#2 being discovered by football fans if not the world owes to this veteran goalkeeper who has been their starter since 2012. Born in the middle of the 1986 FIFA World Cup, his dad tried to name him after one of Argentina's players that year, Jorge Valdano, but after the registry denied it he got the name of a Brazilian player, Josimar. Then being mostly raised by his grandparents led to the childhood nickname of Vozinha, "little grandma", which he adopted when meeting another goalkeeper named Josimar in Angola. #1 had him doing heroic performances, keeping clean sheets against Spain and Saudi Arabia and also managing a tie with Uruguay, and while he came up just short of another tie against #8 that would lead to the penalty shootouts, Vozinha certainly wrote his name in tournament history.
19	Zion Suzuki	728,806	Another goalkeeper facing a South American powerhouse, the Japanese one who is very dark-skinned due to a Ghanaian father was doing his best against Brazil, who only scored by the second half and took until injury time to get the game winner.
20	Michael Olise	718,635	#5's teammate only strenghtens France's chances to win #1 with performances so good that had him praised by Thierry Henry himself and rumours of a record-breaking €233 million transfer to Real Madrid CF.
21	Taylor Swift	707,220	It's a love story, baby, she said "Yes!" In July 2023, while Taylor Swift performed for two nights at the Arrowhead Stadium where he played as part of the Kansas City Chiefs, Travis Kelce tried to meet her after a concert, was denied, but left her a bracelet with his number. It worked and only two months later, it was Swift who attended Kelce's match and later held hands with him, causing so much frenzy that even led to him topping our weekly report. On the same day Arrowhead received one of #1's games (Colombia 1-0 Ghana), the couple was getting married at Madison Square Garden, in a ceremony officiated by Adam Sandler!
22	Daveigh Chase	703,389	The death of the actress best known for in the same year voicing the cheerful Lilo and playing the spooky Samara saw extra details revealed, that the previously revealed bloodstream infection and meningitis resultant from years of polysubstance use was actually an aggravant from AIDS. Her estranged family (she cut off ties with them about a decade ago to live in homelessness and addiction, with Chase's mother saying she had last seen Daveigh visiting her in jail in 2019) said to not support a GoFundMe started by Chase's boyfriend when she was hospitalized, saying they will deal with her funeral and cremation.
23	2022 FIFA World Cup	672,928	The one where #8 won and pretty much reassured his position as the goat.
24	Diogo Jota	610,821	As soon as #4's team won the seemingly endless game against Croatia they made a tribute to someone who would be in the Portuguese squad if he had not died exactly one year prior, striker Diogo Jota, who crashed a car on the way to the ferry that would take him back to Liverpool FC.
25	Stephen Eustáquio	609,606	Keeping off #2/#18's squad, the ones eliminated by #15 and sleeper hit The Sheep Detectives is the midfielder who scored Canada's winner against South Africa, born in Leamington, Ontario and relocated to the Portugal of his parents at the age of 7.
